Setting Up Discord & Game Audio Without Echo or Static

Eliminate keyboard click feedback, background computer fan buzz, and audio echo so your teammates hear you crystal clear during gaming sessions.

1. Assigning Correct Input and Output Devices

By default, Discord selects "Default Device" which can cause audio to route incorrectly whenever you connect or disconnect a headset. Always manually select your specific headset microphone and headphones.

Navigate to Discord Settings → Voice & Video and set Input Device to your Headset Microphone and Output Device to your Headset Headphones.

💡 Stopping In-Game Echo

If teammates hear your game sounds through your mic, make sure you are wearing headphones rather than playing through desktop speakers. Speakers bleed audio directly back into your microphone.

2. Enabling Krisp Noise Suppression

Discord features built-in AI noise suppression powered by Krisp. It intelligently cuts out mechanical keyboard clicks, room fans, and household noise while keeping your voice crisp:

  1. In Voice & Video Settings, scroll down to Noise Suppression.
  2. Select Krisp.
  3. Turn off Echo Cancellation if Krisp makes your voice sound robotic, as Krisp already handles ambient echo.

3. Setting Up Input Sensitivity Threshold

Automatic Input Sensitivity can occasionally chop off the beginning or end of your sentences. Switch to manual sensitivity for total control:

  • Toggle off Automatically determine input sensitivity.
  • Speak normally into your microphone. Position the slider bar so the yellow bar lights up when you speak, but stays gray when typing or breathing normally.

4. Balancing Game Volume and Teammate Voices

If game explosions drown out voice chat, use Discord's Attenuation feature:

Under Voice & Video, enable Attenuation and set it to 30%. This automatically lowers game sound by 30% whenever someone speaks in your voice channel.

5. Summary Checklist

With Krisp enabled and manual threshold calibrated, your voice channel will remain clean and quiet even during intense gaming action.
